10000 Sails of solidarity
10000 Sails of Solidarity is again active for a new project, the 4th in our history.
After the first two editions of 4th December 2011 and 7th of April 2012 to support the victims of the severe flood in the La Spezia area and in the Cinque Terre area, thanks to the fundraising done during these campaigns, we were able to purchase two vehicles for the transportation of disabled people on behalf of coop Gulliver of Brugnato. We have also re-built the mooring buoys in the harbour of Vernazza. Further to this we have organised a sailing ”flash mob” on the 7th of May 2017 to help the victims of the earhquake of Amatrice (with the fundraising done in this occasion we have been able to purchase 155 sport clothing sets for the use of the students of the Liceo Scientifico ad indirizzo sportivo of the town torn apart by the earthquake.
On this occasion we decided to organise a new project, this time without fundraising, against a subject that sadly fills up the pages on the newspapers on a daily basis and creates shame in rational people – the violence against women. In doing so, we want to get the whole Italian sailing community involved to express a real support in the fight against gender violence, in particular against women.
“10000 sails to fight violence against women – let’s change the course together ”
The sailing community, with all its variants and peculiarities, has learned through history to consider gender equity as a solid reality. We like to say that when sailing there is no difference of gender, sex or class. We are very lucky in this and , as sailors usually do, we would like to share this priviledge.
Save the date – 4th July 2021
We would like to invite everyone who can have access to a sailboat, along the Italian coastline and lakes, to get on the water on 4th of July 2021 with a red ribbon hoisted up the mast as sign of participation to this large (and we hope massive) charitable flotilla.
Let’s put a red ribbon on every boat
We need a strong camaraderie in the course and we need to be all together – women and men, without parties, prejudices or dividing toughts. We need to be like a sailing crew where each individual has his own strenght but work as a whole entity with the rest of the team to achieve a common goal. Together!!
Let’s try to lay a symbolic, long red ribbon along all the 8000 km of coastline and lakes of our Country. This is just a start, surely but like every long journey, as the saying goes, it will start always from the first step.
We hope that this initiative will not be a one off event, but will instead be the first step in putting together a world that can give a lot – the sailing world – with a world that has lost a lot, if not everything – the world of the victims of violence.
Fair Winds and Calm seas !
